Wishing the Weather Would Stay Consistent

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

This weather is killing my fishing. One day it is sunny and 85 degrees and then the next day it is cloudy and 30. Once this weather quits changing so dramatically it should turn out ot be a very productive fishing season.  We are really looking forward to our trips we have planned and also how everyone is catching them.

Fish On…

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

My stepfather and I began inshore saltwater fishing probably 15 years ago with NO idea what we were doing. Many trips of nothing to show, broken equipment, snapped lines, and so on. It took us about 3 years to really understand what we were doing, and now we have gotten pretty successful at it. We have been able to catch all kinds of fish. I became addicted to the ocean.

My family owns a beach house at Dauphin Island, Al. I spent a lot of time growing up down there. We fish in Mobile Bay between Dauphin Island and Fort Morgan on a ship channel known as “Dixie Bar”. Its one of the top red fish destinations in the country. When the tide is right it turns into a Bull Red on every drift across. The big ones too, 30 to 40 lbers. Its insane. We will be down there this summer filming a lot, so in the mean time here are some pictures of some buddies and I this past summer.

Fishing in between Seasons

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

There is always a long boring wait in between hunting seasons. Well now that the spring season is right around the corner there is something that every outdoorsman loves to do, and that is fish. A great deal of people do not fish until the weather is much warmer but if you have patience and a wide arange of lures or multiple poles; once you figure out what the fish are biting you can tear them up. Here a few things to get you ready for your early spring fishing adventures.
You are going to want to find shallow water that is not to shady. The bass become luggish during the winter and early spring because they are cold blooded. You will probably have to run your bait right in front of the fish to trigger a strike. You can start off with lures like a buzz bait or spinnerbait but those retreivals are usually to fast. I like to use a weightless worm or a lizard. I do this because the fish are not as active until it gets a little warmer. Other lure choices for slow retreives are tubes, jigs, or crankbait. You might have to do a little research on your colors based on the water conditions that you will be fishing
Good Luck
