Mud Nationals

March 30th, 2009

Later this week the boys of Team Recoil and I are headed to Jacksonville, TX to go to High Lifter’s ATV Mud Nationals. A couple of the guys have gotten a either a new bike or made some modification upgrades, so it will be interesting to see how we will compare to the rest of the crowd. Stay updated because we will be adding pcitures and some video footage of us getting a little mud on the tires plus some racing footage.

Wild Spring

March 25th, 2009

Well, between turkey hunting, bristol motor speedway, mud nationals and fishing, I have been having/will have a crazy spring. I am ready to put an end to this awful turkey hunting steak, go bow fishing, hit the coast for the reds and specks as well as maybe even fit in a trip to taladega. If you get a chance to YouTube Mud Nationals, please keep in mind that I will probably come back there without a bike.

Stolen Laptop

March 22nd, 2009

Sorry I havent written a post recently. Apparently living in a gated neighborhood does not mean your car will get broken into.  I found this out because last Friday I had my backpack stolen out of my truck and it had my laptop and all of my school notes in it and thats all they took; not my iPod, radar dectector, or cd player, just my backpack. So if anyone has any idea who it was let me know( haha only joking). I guess I shouldnt expected anything less living in Memphrica ,than getting my car broken into the 2nd night I was home. Well on a more upbeat note, I am anxiously awaiting Ward’s return from the NASCAR race to start chasing after those gobblers.

Bowfishing 3/18/09..

March 19th, 2009

Buffalo

We went to the lake Wednesday night to take out a father and son that have never bowfished off a boat before and we ended up getting into some nice fish! A good time was had by all! We didn’t shoot a high number of fish, mainly because we were passing up small fish when we found the bigger fish were in the area. Here are a few pictures of the Grass Carp and Buffalo we shot.

Turkeys are gettin Fired up

March 19th, 2009

With the craziest weather going on up here in North MS, turkey season has been sort of slow. It went from zero gobbling, to gobbling only up in the trees. I would say a day or two more with the incoming weather patterns before they get into full gobble force. These turkeys are driving me nuts, in due time though, we will have them patterned .

Snake Boots?

March 15th, 2009

I picked up a pair of Rocky Lowcountry Snake boots this weekend for turkey season.  I have never worn snake boots before but I figure as much as I am running around the woods, they are a small investment for a little extra peace of mind. I was wondering if y’all wear snake boots and if so, what kind?

I read an interesting statistic by the “The Snakemaster”, Steve Scruggs, he says the average cost (medical expenses) to treat a venomous snake bite can exceed $20,000. Another interesting fact is that an adult diamondback rattlesnake carries 850milligrams of venom. Jus remember that when your walking around this turkey season and keep your eyes peeled for Ol’ Mr. No-shoulders.

Turkey Season is Only a Few Days Away

March 9th, 2009

Im sure everyone is glad that opening day of turkey season is just a few more days away. Make sure you get some last minute scouting in so you have you hunt planned for opening day. Also make sure that your gun is patterned correctly and all of your calls, clothing, and other accessories are readily at hand. There is nothing worse than waking up on opening day and not remembering where all of your equipment is. This will stress you out and could ruin your morning. Make a checklist that will make sure you have everything before you leave and get out there and smash some gobblers. We look forward to seeing everyones pictures and videos from their hunts.

Favorite Turkey shell?

March 9th, 2009

Hello everybody. I would like to ask the Recoil Fans who are as crazy about turkey hunting as we are what their favorite shell is?

Fish On…

March 5th, 2009

My stepfather and I began inshore saltwater fishing probably 15 years ago with NO idea what we were doing. Many trips of nothing to show, broken equipment, snapped lines, and so on. It took us about 3 years to really understand what we were doing, and now we have gotten pretty successful at it. We have been able to catch all kinds of fish. I became addicted to the ocean.

My family owns a beach house at Dauphin Island, Al. I spent a lot of time growing up down there. We fish in Mobile Bay between Dauphin Island and Fort Morgan on a ship channel known as “Dixie Bar”. Its one of the top red fish destinations in the country. When the tide is right it turns into a Bull Red on every drift across. The big ones too, 30 to 40 lbers. Its insane. We will be down there this summer filming a lot, so in the mean time here are some pictures of some buddies and I this past summer.

Fishing in between Seasons

March 3rd, 2009

There is always a long boring wait in between hunting seasons. Well now that the spring season is right around the corner there is something that every outdoorsman loves to do, and that is fish. A great deal of people do not fish until the weather is much warmer but if you have patience and a wide arange of lures or multiple poles; once you figure out what the fish are biting you can tear them up. Here a few things to get you ready for your early spring fishing adventures.
You are going to want to find shallow water that is not to shady. The bass become luggish during the winter and early spring because they are cold blooded. You will probably have to run your bait right in front of the fish to trigger a strike. You can start off with lures like a buzz bait or spinnerbait but those retreivals are usually to fast. I like to use a weightless worm or a lizard. I do this because the fish are not as active until it gets a little warmer. Other lure choices for slow retreives are tubes, jigs, or crankbait. You might have to do a little research on your colors based on the water conditions that you will be fishing
Good Luck
